A field visit to the Department of Water Supply, New Panchayat Samiti, Miraj was organized for 120 students as a part of the Applied Chemistry curriculum. The main objective of the visit was to understand the processes involved in water treatment and the importance of providing safe drinking water to the public.
During the visit, the officials explained the various stages of water treatment, including collection of raw water, sedimentation, filtration, disinfection, and distribution. Students learned about the role of chemicals such as alum and chlorine in removing impurities and disinfecting water. The importance of maintaining water quality through regular chemical analysis, including testing of pH, turbidity, hardness, and residual chlorine, was also explained.
The visit provided practical exposure to the concepts studied in Applied Chemistry and helped students understand the real-life applications of water treatment techniques. The interaction with the department staff enhanced students’ knowledge about water quality management, public health, and environmental protection.
